In this post, I would like to share a little bit of magic from beautiful Amsterdam’s botanic garden that I visited recently.
I’ve been living in #Amsterdam since few years already, but this was my first time in this amazing place. To be honest, I need to confirm that I totally underestimated this place. I never really had a need to visit any botanic garden, as all seemed to be similar and… just full of plants. That was my imagination about botanic gardens so far. Now I realised how big ignorant I was!
‘’Hortus’’ means 'garden' in Latin, meaning of word "botanicus’’ is well known to everyone. Amsterdam’s #HortusBotanicus is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, established in 1638. Although is located in city center, it feels like oasis of peace. It brings
vibe of one my favourite book from childhood, 'A Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
I’m totally in love with this place. This is definitely one of my favourite place in Amsterdam.
For a moment it allows you to feel an exotic spirit of the jungle in the middle of the city. Especially valuable in the city like Amsterdam, when usually rains and most of the year is pretty chilly. Here, you can look for some warm and eye catching beautiful plants in palm greenhouse, climate greenhouse full of cactuses or butterfly greenhouse.
If weather is nice, you can enjoy walk in the open garden or chilling with glass of wine in Het Hortus Café.
If anyone is planning visit in Amsterdam any soon, here is the link to the Hortus itself: https://www.dehortus.nl/?lang=en (in English). You can find all information needed about opening time, ticket and events.
